St. Matthew The Apostle

WELCOME

Welcome you to St. Matthew Episcopal Church in South Miami. We hope you will join us in person very soon!

The Episcopal Church is known as a “bridge tradition” because it encompasses both the Catholic and Protestant traditions in one spiritual family. We are members of the worldwide Anglican Communion; along with 85 million other Anglican Christians throughout the world.

Wherever you are on your journey in faith, there is a place here for you. Come and experience the love of God with us as we worship, serve, and seek to follow the way of Jesus together. All are welcome!

The Feast of Christ the King

The last Sunday of this liturgical year (November 21st) is designated as the Feast of Christ the King. On November 28th we will enter the Season of Advent and, with it, will start the new liturgical year when our Sunday lessons will be from the Gospel of Luke.

The Feast of Christ the King was instituted in 1925 in the Roman Catholic Church as a response to the rise of secularization, atheism, and communism. Despite its recent Catholic origin, the feast is celebrated by many Anglicans, Lutherans, Methodists and Protestants.

The photo above is of the "Christ the King" statue in Poland, the largest statue of Jesus in the world.

Upcoming Education

The Art of the Nativity – Sunday, December 5

As we head towards Advent and Christmas, we may encounter images of the Nativity of our Lord, in Christmas cards or creche sets, advertisements, and the like. Would you like to have a deeper understanding of these images and the source of some of their elements? (Hint: they come from not only the Gospels of Luke and Matthew, but also other sources.) Please join us in Parish Hall on Sunday, December 5th after the service, for holiday cookies and coffee, and Mother Busto’s PowerPoint presentation of The Art of the Nativity, with images from the early Christian centuries to our time.
